Graphic novels. Collected issues. Omnibuses. Trade. These are really all just words for “a great way to read comics”. So, with this column we’re going to be looking at all of these cool sites hitting comic book stores, bookstores, and online outlets this week! (Note that comic book stores, online retailers, and bookstores have different release dates in some cases)

PROJECT CARTRIDGE
Written by Steve Orlando
Art by Patrick Piazzalunga, Carlos Lopez
Published by Aftershock Comics
Price: $ 16.99
You can find it here: Amazon, Bookshop.org

The publisher says: Thirty years ago, the world watched in horror as THE PATRON, a hero sent from another dimension as humanitarian aid, went blow by blow with WOE, a primeval beast and perfect partner for our mighty protector. In the end, hero and villain alike fell … but the patron returned – and defends us to this day!

At least that’s what we’ve all been told.

The truth is that that day the patron died along with Woe. The UN replaced the patron with a reploid that was supposed to imitate the real patron and continue his protective mission.

Today the Patron Reploid is secretly controlled by an elite team – a team prepared for anything … except the death of their own.

A deep insight into the underside of the superhero myth as only the writer Steve Orlando (KILL A MAN, Midnighter, Martian Manhunter) can tell. Illustrated by Patrick Piazzalunga (Siege, X-Factor), this volume contains issues # 1-5

What I say: Steve Orlando. Secret. A new superhero concept. Steve Orlando. Steve Orlando.

BATMAN BY SCOTT SNYDER & GREG CAPULLO OMNIBUS VOL. 2

What I say: There’s a reason this collaboration gets the omnibus treatment. That’s because the work was character-defining and as hell entertaining. This tome is 928 pages long, and that’s how people should read it Batman.

X-CORP VOL. 1
Written by Tini Howard
Art by Alberto Foche, Valentine De Landro, Sunny Gho, Clayton Cowles
Published by Marvel Comics

You can find it here: Amazon, Bookshop.org

The publisher says: Krakoa is for sewers!

The deals are made. Mutantkind is safe on his new island nation. But who represents the interests of the mutants who have everything? At the top is the X Corporation, led by CXOs Monet St. Croix and Warren Worthington – a duo who are as cutthroat and ruthless in the boardroom as they are on the battlefield. But X-Corp needs more than just its figureheads.

And while Monet sets out to cast some of the brightest mutants on his team – including Dr. Jamie Madrox, who offers maximum synergies with minimum bandwidth – new investors are coming, including Selene and Mastermind! But when deals bear fruit unexpectedly, Warren finds himself in a tense meeting with one of Krakoa’s first allies who wants to know the truth: will X-Corp fall or rise on Angel’s wings?

Collect:
X-Corp (2021) # 1-5

What I say: Tini Howard’s work is among the most powerful of the current X-Men era and X-Corp is no exception. Bringing the boardroom world to Krakoa is an ace in my books, and Howard, doing this with Foche and De Landro, is just the icing on the cake.
