Eligible voters elect two people to the Board of Trustees for a four-year term (January 2022 – January 2026) and two people to the Nomination Committee for a three-year term (January 2022 – January 2025) to fill the seats that expire in January 2022. The elected will take office at the Library Association’s annual meeting in January 2022.

The list of candidates for the Great Neck Library election on October 25, 2021 has been announced.

Candidate list:

Board of Trustees
For the expiring seat of Weihua Yan, Nomination Committee Candidate: Donald Panetta.
For the expiring seat of Barry Smith, Nominations Committee Candidate: Barry Smith.

Nomination Committee
For the expiring seat of Francine Ferrante Krupski, nominee of the nomination committee: Josie Pizer.
For the expiring seat of William Gens, nomination committee candidate: Tommi-Grace Melito
Independent Candidates: Interested persons can now choose to run as an independent candidate. Please note that due to the pandemic, only 25 signatures from members of the Great Neck Library Association are required this year for the petition, which can be found on the library’s election page at greatnecklibrary.org.

The Board of Trustees of the Great Neck Library is responsible for upholding the library’s mission statement; to determine the policies that will be implemented to govern the library; Recruiting and evaluating the library director and overseeing the library’s budget. By serving on the board of trustees or the nominations committee, you would continue the great tradition of service to your community and ensure that the library continues to grow and prosper.

Eligibility to vote and nominate: In order to be able to vote or be nominated for a position on the Board of Trustees or the Nomination Committee, you must be at least 18 years old, resident in the Great Neck School District and either be a valid library card holder by October 4, 2021, 17: 00:00, or a voter registered with the Nassau County Electoral Board.

To obtain a valid library card, present an ID card with your name and library district address at the lending desk at any Great Neck Library location.
Proxy voting:

September 13: Power of attorney application forms are available at all Great Neck Library locations, on the library website at greatnecklibrary.org, and in the library’s newsletter. Powers of attorney must be requested using the form provided by the library.

October 19: Last day for the library to send out voting papers. Proxy requests received after this date will be collected personally from the Director’s Office for Powers of Attorney.

October 22nd: Completed powers of attorney must ONLY be received on this day before 5:00 p.m. at the main post office on Welwyn Road or deposited in a locked box on the Main or in the branches before 5:00 p.m.

This year’s library election will take place on Monday, October 25, 2021 from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.
