Box score

Start mug: Valentin Linarez 5 IP, 4 H, 3 ER, 1 BB, 4 SO

Remarkable achievements:

Game summary: Valentin Linarez was promoted by the FCL at short notice for this start (see comments below) and has done an excellent job under the circumstances. He went five innings, allowing three runs with four hits and one walk with four strikeouts. He threw 79 pitches, 49 of them for strikes. Jack Carey, who also rose from the FCL, took sixth place.

Greensboro had four pitchers on the injured list today, including JC Flowers (today’s starter), Carmen Mlodzinski and Tahnaj Thomas, and emergency helper Garrett Leonard. You can speculate as to why four pitchers are “injured” at the same time, but I don’t know the reason. Valentin Linarez and Jack Carey both joined the Grasshoppers from FCL and Altoona demoted Steven Jennings to help with the workload.
